Mechanics Institute Room Booking

The Mechanics Institute was built in 1876 and lies within the heart of the conservation area, right in the centre of Whaley Bridge. The building houses Whaley Bridge Library in the basement, the office of Whaley Bridge Town Council on the ground floor and there are three function rooms for hire.

A coffee morning is held in this room every Saturday 9am – 12pm, at a booking cost of £18 (£20 from 2025). It is available for hire for meetings, parties, etc at a cost of £18.50 per hour (Special rates are offered for regular bookings). The Citizens Advice Bureau hold a session every Thursday morning. Bookings must be made in advance and can be made by contacting Citizens Advice on 08082 787954. It is a popular venue for children's parties, for children up to 12 years old: the cost for these is £33 for 2 hours plus set up time.

The reading room is available for hire Mon to Fri and Saturday mornings. There are several comfortable armchairs, together with a range of useful information and literature. This room is ideal for small meetings. Cost: £15.50 per hour (Special rates are offered for regular bookings)

This is a large well-decorated, pleasant room which is suitable for a wide range of activities including, wedding receptions, seminars, dances, yoga classes, parties, etc. There is provision for bar facilities. Cost (evenings and weekends): £25.00 per hour ; Cost (weekdays): £20.50 per hour. Special rates can be offered for regular bookings. Children's parties are £50.00 for 2 hours and set up time. Private parties can be held on Fri and Sat evenings at a fixed rate of £140. A returnable cash deposit of £150.00 which is payable 48 hours before the event in respect of all weekend parties.

Small room available for projects requiring ground floor access. Costs £12.00 per hour. Special rate available for regular users or for long periods.
